What is East coast swing?

East coast swing

This dance form is an example of a partnered dance. In classes a choreographed sequence is generally taught, but in practice it is an improvised dance. (Editor).

East Coast swing is predominately a 6 count version of Lindy Hop, and was the style chosen by early Rock and Roll dancers. If you watch the 1956 movie Rock around the Clock, you can see some examples of it. Often called Jitterbug, it is a simpler dance which means it can be done to fast music, usually in the 150-200 beats per minute range.
